MASTIGADOR / MASTICATOR


O projecto The Masticator (O Mastigador) desenvolvido por Takehito Etani foi influenciado por Horace Fletcher que promoveu em inícios do sec XX um sistema de dieta baseado na super mastigação. A sua "teoria" era bastante popular na America e Europa.Thomas Edison, Franz Kafka, and John D. Rockefeller eram alguns dos praticantes do Fletchirismo. Ele pensava que para uma reforma social a utilização da tecnica de super-mastigação iria resolver problemas urbanos de cariz social como a pobreza,a doença e o crime.
O Masticator é uma protese que dá um feedback audiovisual da mastigação durante as refeições. Por cada mastigadela o aparelho dá um bip e conta num visor electronico. O Masticator visita restaurantes como o Macdonald´s à procura de uma mastigação lenta de hamburgueres e batatas fritas , há procura de um ritual lento...
A tecnologia utilizada é chamada MAST-I (Mastication Activated Switch Technology version one).
The Masticator project was developed by Takehito Etani was influenced by Horace Fletcher, a social reformer/first dietetic faddist in the early 20th century, promoted his dietetic system based on super mastication. His “chew-chew fad” was quite popular in America and Europe. Thomas Edison, Franz Kafka, and John D. Rockefeller were among the practitioners of Fletcherism. He sought for social reform by using the careful super mastication technique to solve urban social problems like poverty, sickness, and crime.
The Masticator is a headgear that gives audio visual feedback of chewing during meals. At each chew the device beeps and counts the chewing on the LED digital display.One who wears it is also called "The Masticator". The Masticator occasionally visits restaurants such as McDonald's to chew slowly on hamburgers and fries in ritualistic manner.
Sensing of the mastication was achieved by a technology called MAST-I (Mastication Activated Switch Technology version one).

I have been on the Fletcherism diet for a little over 3 months and have lost 37 pounds. I chew eat bite 32 times and eat Lunch and supper only and have a mid afternoon snack about 3 pm. And another one at 8:30 at night. Be sure to chew eat bite at least 32 times. You will eat about 20-30 minutes and feel totally full and are eating a lot less calories by eating less food and you feel totally satisfied. Read Horace Fletcher’s book in Google books called How I Became Young at Sixty.
